Geff a 64 year old patient has been suffering from weight problems for the last three years. His height was 1.83cm and his body weight 109.8 kg. At the moment of the consultation he complained for a lack of energy, feeling tired all day and fatigue especially in the mornings at wake up. During his clinical examination pulse was 64bpm and regular and BP 160/90. The last three months he was diagnosed hypertensive (under medication) and he has also been prescribed statins (20mg/d)
His diet was heavily geared towards red meats and diary products and therefore high in saturated fats. Although he was eating regularly three meals per day, these meals were mostly commercial, processed and quite often junk food. Vegetables and fruits constituted a minimal portion of his nutritional regime and often they were totally missing. He wasn’t drinking any water but he was taking regularly 3-4 cups of black tea and 1-2 cups of black coffee per day. Almost every week end he was drinking a total of 10 pints of beer. He is a social smoker (7-10 cigarettes per week).

Recommendations:
An effective recommended nutritional plan was based on the concept of the Cellular and Molecular Nutrition in combination with a more traditional nutritional regime in order to ensure the absorption of different macro and micro nutrients such as proteins, carbohydrates, essential fats, vitamins, minerals and fibers. Moreover, such a nutritional programme was also accompanied by an educational approach vis-à-vis the way of better eating in order to help patient to preserve results for a long time. Thanks to the effectiveness of this programme personalized and adapted to the patient’s needs and actual lifestyle, the patient achieved a better body composition and gained more energy and vitality. Furthermore, the Cellular and Molecular Nutrition programme aimed at ensuring its body a better performance to all the levels by facilitating a good distribution of the components of the body (i.e., percentages of the body fat, lean mass, dry lean mass, and body water). Various nutritional guidelines and recommendations were also given in order to help the patient to achieve optimum results such as:
- Ensure both quantity and quality of the daily protein intake with respect to his body composition and daily energy requirements.
- Enhance the consumption of different phytonutrients within an appropriate targeted approach and suitable to the patient’s lifestyle at the present moment.
- Optimize the absorption of all the important nutrients in order to assure optimum nourishment to the cellular level.
- Facilitate the elimination of the toxins from the body and protecting the body from the harmful effects of the oxidation process (free radicals, oxidative stress).
The suggested period of the programme was from one to three months. Therefore, the patient’s short term objectives within two months were: loss of body weight, decrease body fat percentage and increase body lean mass.
